B2B Social Media Marketing: 5 Major Mistakes to Avoid

B2B social media marketing

Earlier this month, we discussed the power of visual content and showed statistics on it’s impact on B2B social media marketing. As a B2B marketer, if you weren’t leveraging social media yet, you will soon. And when you do, make sure not to make any of these 5 major mistakes!

5 B2B Social Media Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Talking too much.

No one likes spam. The goal of your B2B social media marketing should be to provide value to your audience. If you only use social media to promote your brand, users may consider you less creditable.

You can provide value by sharing educational, relevant content to your audience. This will keep users coming back to for more, and in turn, increase your credibility.

Talking not enough.

Social media is a great way to provide excellent customer service to your clients. When you’re not active on your social media profiles, users won’t know where to go to get in touch with you. It also shows users that you don’t care.

Keeping a consistent schedule of updates shows your audience not only that you’re available, but that you care, as well.

Not optimizing your profile.

Social media marketing provides tremendous opportunity to drive traffic to your B2B website. You can optimize your profiles with a detailed description of your company and a link that directs back to your site.

It’s also important to know that social media content is now indexed by search engines. So be sure to consider each tweet or status update as a piece of content that can be optimized for search engines.

Not keeping a consistent profile across all networks.

Your B2B social media channels are marketing materials for your company. They are powerful platforms to share your message and increase brand awareness. When your social media profiles don’t match, users can become confused. This can deter users from interacting with your content and reduce brand recognition.

A consistent brand logo, color scheme and tone of voice through out every social media network helps users remember who you are.

Trying to be everywhere, spreading yourself too thin.

Just because B2B marketers use an average of 6 social media channels, doesn’t mean you have to. It’s best to focus your efforts on the social media networks that your target audience is actually active and engaging on. Trying to be where everyone else is only hinders your social media marketing efforts.

If you’ve found yourself making any of these B2B social media marketing mistakes, don’t fret. They are an easy fix once you find the right place and frequency to share your content. However, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re not making any of these social media mistakes either!
