Challenge

Intersystems’ web presence includes more than 20 websites (14 of which are translated to their local language) – all designed and developed (and to-be) by emagine.

Intersystems was launching a new brand campaign with the end-goal of highlighting why their product ‘matters’. We needed to give them a website that created brand awareness and answered “what does InterSystems do?”

In addition, their content had evolved (and was continuing to evolve) and they were looking for a better way to showcase their high-quality resources. A better way to manage and organize the large quantity of content was also critical to their team’s success.

Finally, proper dedication to SEO wasn’t given to the previous website. InterSystems looked to emagine for advisement on how to improve their organic search initiatives.

Strategy

To start, we tackled the challenge of creating brand awareness and got to work answering “what does InterSystems do?” For new visitors to the site, they needed to immediately and distinctly present InterSystems’ brand messaging that was developed prior to working with emagine. The homepage featured the below messaging in the hero:

Empowering Healthcare to Improve Care Matters
Keeping the Business World Turning Matters
Helping Governments Serve Their Citizens Matters
InterSystems: The Power Behind What Matters

Also included on the homepage directly below the hero image are CTAs for users to self-identify by industry: Health, Business, Government.

Next, we created a resource library front-end template for each website that improve the user experience and overall organization of content. Filter functionality allows any piece of content to be pulled into the resource library of any site. County-specific site admins can also choose their language(s) for resources they’ve chosen to incorporate.

A featured resource layer was also developed to feature one or many resources at a time on any given page. The end-user can filter by ‘industry’, ‘product’ and ‘resource type’ without needing to refresh the page. Clicking a ‘load more’ feature at the bottom of the page reveals more resources on that page without refreshing – also without refreshing. To improve overall usability, we developed the resource center to include a history of chosen filters. This means that a user’s filter choices are stored and when they click “back”, there’s no need to re-enter.

To improve flexibility and overall backend management of the website network, we designed and developed flexible page solutions that can leverage many design layout variations – multi-columns, including icons, including background with image or color, video, varying text color options.

Dynamic content incorporates news items and resources that are defined by specific criteria – like “show me the 3 latest blog posts by production on this page. The benefits of this setup from a management perspective is that everything can be implemented in the backend in one place and pulled into the site in multiple places (set it and forget it).

The SEO portion of this project was just as exciting as the rest. We started with performing keyword research to develop a unique custom keyword strategy that included InterSystems most important terms and phrases. After extensive research and adequate time dedicated to strategy development, we optimized high value page copy according to our SEO Best Practice Setup, configured Google Analytics accordingly and submitted the new sitemap to Google.

Since resources are shared across multiple foreign language sites, we created a solution to dynamically generate country code and language tags. This is used when a resource is present on several country websites as a sustainable way to control the proper indexing of resources by search engines. Ultimately, it eliminates the risk of being penalized by Google for duplicate content.

Creation of a cohesive look and feel across all websites – including resources – our solution is still a work in progress as we bring creative consistency to each of their sites. Stay tuned as we roll out the country specific websites…
