The Pacific Neuroscience Institute (PNI) at Providence Saint John’s Health Center is devoted to the care of patients with a wide spectrum of neurological and cranial disorders. Across 7 Centers of Excellence, PNI provides state-of-the-art care with a focus on minimally invasive surgical and interventional techniques, as well as novel targeted therapies that aim to restore and maintain quality of life. In collaboration with the John Wayne Cancer Institute, PNI is also focused on translational research and clinical trials as well as fellowship education and continuing medical education.

Challenge
emagine began its partnership with PNI looking to redesign the Pacific Brain Tumor Center site (originally housed at www.brain-tumor.org). The project soon evolved into the ground-up development of an online presence for the newly-created Pacific Neuroscience Institute, highlighting 7 distinct areas of therapeutic focus and research.

Strategy
Navigation was a particularly critical piece of this project. The end user interface needed to provide quick access to global content that applied to all Centers of Excellence (or just the institute as a parent entity), while allowing each Center to feature its own subset of relevant content from those global lists.
A 2-tiered navigation was put in place that drew clear lines between global “local” content, and put a stronger visual emphasis on Center-centric content once a user had selected their Center of interest.
The other huge chunk of effort for this project was content creation. The majority of Centers didn’t have a previous web presence, so much of the Condition, Treatment, and clinical trial information needed to be created from scratch. Getting this content organized, developed, and implemented required steadfast, high-touch collaboration between the emagine team and the surgeons at PNI providing the copy.
