Walbridge is a full-service construction company headquartered in Detroit and with offices located across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. They’ve managed projects with both big and small budgets in geographic locations ranging from Midland, Michigan to Chennai, India.

Challenge

We started working with Walbridge on their web presence because they wanted to stand out in their space with a more engaging, simplified experience. Specifically, the challenge was in moving away from the typical image of a hard hat construction company to communicate a more customer-focused message about “how we help.”

In the construction industry, it’s important to showcase capabilities as well as a robust portfolio of work. But, it’s not always possible to feature either the client’s name or imagery related to the project. This would be a main focus for this project along with appropriately presenting their breadth of services across various markets.

Strategy

It wasn’t enough to simply showcase Walbridge’s capabilities. Instead, we needed to put ourselves in the shoes of a prospective client. So, we let their extensive experience and capabilities beyond construction drive key messaging.

To complement and support these claims, we developed project case studies to give real-world examples to show Walbridge is capable of handling big, complex projects under intense pressure and while facing high customer expectations.

For site architecture and navigation, we needed to organize the various markets they serve and equally acknowledge each of them including: Automotive, Chemicals, Education, Energy, General Building, Government, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Metals, Mission Critical. This was achieved with a homepage layout that accounts for a dedicated “Featured Markets” area.

On top of equally representing markets, we needed to do the same for their multiple service offerings including: Data & Modeling, Pre-Construction, Construction, Process Engineering, Concrete, Equipment Installation. This was achieved by carving out a dedication section for “What We Do.”

From a creative standpoint, we also needed to represent these markets and service offerings using imagery that’s different than what you typically see on a construction website. So, we leveraged impactful imagery that strays from the obvious representation.
