What is RankBrain?

RankBrain is one of the hundreds of things Google uses to give you the search results page you get. In an interview with Bloomberg, Greg Corrado, a senior research scientist at Google, says “RankBrain uses artificial intelligence to interpret language and queries with the gut feeling and guess ability of people.” The goal of RankBrain is to further personalize search results, Corrado compared it to being at a crowed bar and not hearing everything the person you are talking to is saying, but still guess their meaning and hold a conversation. This is a big step for Google in working to humanize and further personalize their search results.

How RankBrain effects search results?

There are hundreds of search signals and ranking factors that determine what results show up on the first page of a search, and RankBrain is the latest addition to this long list. According to Corrado, a “very large fraction” of the millions of queries that Google deals with every second are currently being ranked by this system. And to the surprise of Google’s scientist, since its deployment, RankBrain has become the third most important ranking signal; they didn’t realize it would be that effective.
