If you haven’t already heard, on April 23, 2015 WordPress released Version 4.2 named “Powell”, in honor of jazz pianist Bud Powell. This update is complete with new features that will help you communicate and share globally with a new and improved plugin, PressThis, extended character support including native Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and much, much more!
However, on April 27, 2015 WordPress released a statement regarding a cross-site scripting vulnerability found by the WordPress team. As a result, Version 4.2.1, a critical security release, is now available and should be applied as soon as possible.
As a rule, we suggest all clients engage our Maintenance Department for any updates to WordPress or installed plugins. Sometimes, updates to WordPress can introduce a modified or new piece of functionality that can potentially break your current site. When the update is conducted by emagine, it is done in a staging environment to ensure your site functions properly post-update.
Because this vulnerability could enable commenters to compromise your site, this update is strongly recommended and should take place as quickly as possible. The safest way to do so is by engaging in emagine’s Maintenance Department. Contact us today.
